Lost my chain on a hill...lost the pack. Won a $15 prime. Go figure. First time in the men's Cat 4-5 race. Took second in the women's field though.

Have to rethink this race. The course is too easy and hardly anyone want to do anything. Pretty much same as last year with too much negative racing. The field was content to sit in and let minor teams block. Got tired of it after two laps when a solo rider was set to take away third place so I tried to stir things up. We did catch the solo break halfway through the last lap but I had nothing left to offer at the end. For the most part I didn't care, I was out to race not to get caught up in an another mass field sprint.

It was a good day,the Sun was out and no rain. This was a 35+ masters race with some big guns there,it was fast, safe and fun.I enjoyed racing with Todd,Mitch and Larry,we had good team effort today.

I worked really hard in this race, maybe motivated by the fact that a friend of mine came to watch me race, knew the USCF rep, and volunteered at the spur of the moment to motorcycle marshall our race. Chased after the first break of the day from the back of the field and sat on til the field swallowed it up. By the end of lap two a certain local Cat I who was playing with us like a cat playing with mice had made a succesful second break with one other rider and the race was now for 3rd place. Midway through lap 3 with 15 miles to go I had recovered enough from my earlier effort to get up at the front with Larry and from that point til the final turn Larry and I did much of the work trying to narrow the gap with the two leaders and a third breakaway. We caught the third place rider with the field in tow. Larry did more work than I did, and showed a lot of aggressive "we're out here, we might as well suffer and try for glory" attitude.
